Leeds United are set to relocate and repaint the much-loved mural honouring Don Revie’s 1972 FA Cup winners as part of Elland Road’s expansion. According to Leeds Live, the shift follows plans for a new security hub on that wall.

The artwork, at the North East corner, was commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust and unveiled in 2022 to mark 50 years since the Wembley triumph.

The wall will house the club’s new security hub as work on the West Stand expansion begins, requiring kiosk windows not envisaged when the mural was completed. Work on the hub starts Wednesday, with the old facility behind the West Stand set for demolition.

Artist Nicolas Dixon, who hand painted the original, has been recommissioned to recreate the piece in full. The replacement is expected to be sited close to the current location, and the club has thanked the Supporters’ Trust for its cooperation and support.

The design features portraits, created by sports artist Paul Trevillion, of David Harvey, Paul Reaney, Paul Madeley, Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Terry Cooper, Peter Lorimer, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones, Johnny Giles, Eddie Gray, Mick Bates, Les Cocker and Don Revie.

In January, the club were granted full permission to expand the West Stand and outline approval to extend the North Stand, lifting capacity to around 53,000 once complete. Preparation is under way, with main construction due to begin this summer and most work scheduled for summer and international breaks.
