Fabio Capello feels that Nicolo Barella is the only player in the Inter Milan who embodies the spirit of last season’s Serie A title win.

The legendary former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach gave his verdict after yesterday’s Derby d’Italia loss to Juventus speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

Inter Milan suffered a defeat to Juventus in yesterday evening’s Serie A clash.

That loss just seemed to sum up everything that’s been below par about Inter’s season so far.

In the first half, the Nerazzurri certainly showed their strength. They created more and better chances than the Bianconeri.

However, in the second half, there was a real sense that complacency had begun to set in for Inter.

Juventus came out after the break looking hungry and energized. Inter, on the other hand, looked sluggish and sloppy in possession.

And that proved to be the difference, as the Bianconeri asserted control of a match in which they had been second best in terms of technical quality and possession play in the first half.

There was one Inter player who did seem to match Juventus’s bite and energy in midfield.

And that was midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The former Cagliari man was tenacious as usual. He covered the ground and chased after the ball.

And in possession, Barella had the spark of dynamism to force his way into space and make things happen.

And legendary former coach Capello commented that “I will say one thing strongly: I see the spirit of the 2023-24 Scudetto in Barella.”

“I don’t see that same spirit in the other players,” Capello argued. “It seems to be that they’re not as ruthless.”

“That’s something that often happens the season after a big title win.”
