With nine matches left, two relegation places are separated by three points.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Charlton’s shock win at Middlesbrough took them to 47 points, so they look safe. The scrap is between Leicester City, Portsmouth, Blackburn, Oxford and West Brom, seeking to avoid joining relegated Sheffield Wednesday.
Portsmouth have a game in hand and a testing run, with Middlesbrough away, Ipswich at home and Coventry away, plus Derby, Norwich and Birmingham. They also host Oxford and Leicester, and wins there, with points elsewhere, may secure safety.
Blackburn still face Millwall away and Middlesbrough and Coventry at home, and visit Birmingham, Sheffield United, Southampton and Stoke. They also host West Brom and Leicester, and without shocks could reach the final day against City needing a result.
City’s run looks kinder, with only Hull and Millwall among promotion hopefuls. Those King Power visits may come after places are settled, and Swansea’s faint push might have gone, but trips to Portsmouth, Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday carry risk.
Oxford meet Hull at home and Millwall away, then several play-off chasers, including Southampton, Derby and Wrexham away, plus Watford at home. Facing Charlton when they are largely safe, and hosting Sheffield Wednesday late on, should help.
West Brom have Hull, Millwall, Ipswich, Wrexham and Watford at home, and travel to Bristol City, Preston and Blackburn. Playing Sheffield Wednesday on the final day looks a bonus, though they must still be in the fight to benefit.
