Lewis Dobbin says his long-term aim remains to play for Aston Villa, even as his future beyond this season is unclear while on loan at Preston.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 23-year-old joined Villa from Everton for £10m in summer 2024 and was immediately loaned to West Brom, where he made 18 appearances, only two starts, before being recalled. He then moved to Norwich, but an injury checked a promising start.

Dobbin headed to Preston last summer and the spell has been productive, with eight goals in 34 games in all competitions. At one stage Preston looked as though they might push for the play-offs.

Nearly two years after signing, he has still not played a competitive match for Villa. He has two years left on his contract.

He said he is taking it one match at a time, noting football can change quickly and that he must keep performing. He stressed he is contracted to Villa, joined intending to play for them and hopes a chance arrives, although he would back himself to secure a good move if it does not. His aim, he added, is still to play for Villa.
