Lewis Travis has responded to Tyrhys Dolan's message after receiving his Blackburn Rovers Honour Cap against Coventry City...

Tyrhys Dolan and Lewis Travis are no longer Blackburn Rovers players, but they spent the vast majority of five seasons together from 2020 until 2025.

Lewis Travis was captain of Blackburn Rovers for a time, but has recently been playing his football under John Eustace at Derby County. Tyrhys Dolan, meanwhile, has been plying his trade in Spain with La Liga side Espanyol.

The winger turned down a contract offer from Rovers to pen a three-year deal in Spain. The 24-year-old featured in 210 games for Blackburn, scoring 26 and providing 22 assists during his time at Ewood Park.

His final campaign ended up being his most impressive, with 13 goal involvements in 47 games. It was not at all surprising that interest in Dolan's services grew. His current side sit 10th in La Liga and Dolan has a goal and five assists so far from 24 starts and 32 appearances overall.

Dolan was spotted visiting Blackburn on Friday night, with a 1-1 draw against Coventry City seeing the visitors secure promotion to the Premier League against one of the top division's former winners.

The winger took to Instagram and said: "Back where it all began, very special night to be welcomed back and honoured by the club I can always call home 🏡 was great to see so many familiar faces who played a huge part in my journey and still do 💙"

Travis, his former captain, was in the replies to Dolan, responding to his former teammate with: "👏👏👏👏"

Dolan was there to receive an Honour Cap at Friday’s fixture alongside Tim Sherwood, Don Mackay, Jimmy Forrest, Bobby Langton, Rob Coar, and Lawrence Cotton.

A day later, at 5.30pm on Saturday evening, Dolan started and played the first 45 minutes in a 4-1 defeat to European giants Barcelona. Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford were amongst the scorers.

It's hard to know exactly how Blackburn fans will likely look back on Dolan’s spell at the club. Its most likely with a sense of appreciation rather than any kind of reverence.

Despite the fact he received a legacy cap from the club, he won’t ever be classed as a club legend. However, over 200 appearances across five years is no small feat — especially for a player who arrived with little fanfare on a free transfer from Preston North End.

Dolan was often a bright spark in difficult periods for the club, though. He was energetic and athletic, but also brought a degree of unpredictability alongside moments of quality when the side needed it most in relegation battles some seasons.

Crucially, that is the major factor here. He played his part in keeping Rovers in the Championship during some testing campaigns. Leaving for Espanyol on a free may sting slightly, but his contribution comfortably outweighs that.

In time, if not already, he’ll be remembered as a dependable player who was good value across those seasons. He was not yet at his peak but provided enough of a goal threat to be fondly thought of.
