The Ligue de football professionnel has decided to close its Mexico City outpost after one year and relocate to Senegal, according to L'Équipe. The office had been opened to grow sales of the league’s television rights in Mexico.
It was a small base inside Mexico City’s chamber of commerce and industry. The LFP installed it quietly last summer to pursue broadcast deals.
One year was enough to judge that the French top flight would be too difficult to promote there.
The closure ends a short-lived presence in Mexico City. Attention now shifts to a new base in Senegal.
Despite its modest footprint, the office had represented a significant step for the league’s bid to tap the Mexican market.
