The Ligue de Football Professionnel, LFP, has filed a complaint against persons unknown over potential sports corruption and organised fraud, after abnormal betting on a yellow card shown to Elye Wahi.

The complaint was lodged on 29 May and announced on Wednesday in a statement. The league said integrity partners had flagged atypical movements on international betting markets.

The alerts related to an unusually high volume of stakes on a caution involving Wahi. The Nice forward, who is playing the World Cup with Côte d’Ivoire, was booked in Nice’s match with Metz on 17 May for a studs-up challenge on Sadibou Sané near the Metz corner flag in the 35th minute.

Before taking legal action, the LFP notified the Service Central des Courses et Jeux of the national police, the Autorité Nationale des Jeux and the French Football Federation.

No disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the Nice striker at this stage, with the league reserving the option to do so depending on how the investigations progress.
