Lionel Messi has returned to Inter Miami training only 10 days after Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final after extra time. At 39, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has cut short his break.
He missed the club's first two matches after the tournament, victories over Chicago and Montréal. According to Reuters, the Argentine resumed work in Florida overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
Messi, Argentina's captain, scored eight goals and provided four assists at the World Cup, and has 207 caps and 125 goals for his country. He had been in Rosario since last week, at his father's bedside amid health problems.
Chasing back-to-back titles with Inter Miami, he also declined to feature in the MLS All-Star game against the Mexican league's select in Charlotte, which finished 4-3.
Inter Miami, crowned for the first time in their history last season, were founded in 2018 and are run by David Beckham. They sit second in the Eastern Conference, two points behind leaders Nashville, and will bid to go top when they host Columbus in the early hours of Sunday at 1.30.
