Barcelona and Argentina icon Lionel Messi was comforted by a legendary figure at none other than Real Madrid in the aftermath of last night’s World Cup final.
This of course comes after the veteran attacker and his teammates endured an evening to forget in New York.
After defying the odds in battling their way back to the grandest stage in all of international football, Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina were pitted against the might of an all-conquering Spanish outfit.
And when all was said and done, the latter simply proved too much for the Albiceleste. After proceedings were sent to extra time following a goalless stalemate through 90 minutes, Ferran Torres popped up with the game’s decisive goal late on.
The aforementioned Lionel Messi, playing in his 3rd World Cup final, was left nothing short of crestfallen following the full-time whistle. The 39-year-old, in his last appearance at the tournament, was spotted in tears as he faced up to the reality of another defeat in a major international showcase.
And as alluded to above, quick to show his support for Messi in this difficult moment was Sergio Ramos. A former teammate of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner at Paris Saint-Germain after so many years doing battle in Spain, stopper Ramos made a beeline for Messi on the pitch, hugging and consoling the defeated attacker.
