Reds appear to have avoided another injury setback ahead of their home clash with Manchester United
Liverpool have received yet another boost ahead of the Manchester United showdown with Andy Robertson seemingly allaying any injury fears.
Robertson was a second half replacement for Milos Kerkez in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea last weekend and appeared to be struggling right before Estevao scored a 95th minute winner at Stamford Bridge.
After the game there were suggestions that the left-back had picked up an injury, with footage emerging on social media of the Reds vice-captain limping off the pitch at the final whistle.
Although in Arne Slot’s post-match press conference, he made no mention of a knock for Robertson as the Dutchman only provided an injury update on Ibrahima Konate after the Frenchman was replaced in the second half amid a quad issue.
Robertson has since joined up with the Scotland squad for their World Cup qualification double-header against Greece and Belarus, and effectively confirmed he is fit and ready to start for Steve Clarke’s side.
Speaking to the national team’s YouTube channel, he said: “I can’t wait. It feels ages since we have been back here, especially for a meaningful game, a competitive game.
“Me and the boys just can’t wait to be back out in front of the fans and give them something to shout about.”
Robertson joins Konate in reporting for international duty amid injury fears, thus pointing towards a double fitness boost for Liverpool ahead of the meeting with Man Utd on October 19.
Having said that, Robertson’s availability could hand Slot a selection headache for the big game at Anfield after Kerkez came in for stinging criticism from Gary Neville following a slow start to life on Merseyside.
"Kerkez looks like a youth team player," Neville said in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports on Saturday.
"I know he's a good player but he looks like he's playing for the U21s. He looks so naive; he looks like a baby out there.
"He's losing, he's losing 50-50s against Pedro Neto. It's not as if he's coming from a different country, he's got a lot of games under his belt in the Premier League.”
