Liverpool are the closest club to a £50m transfer, it seems. The player is expected to move clubs this summer.
Liverpool face an incredibly important summer of transfer business once again. It comes after not only a disappointing season in which they collapsed in their title defence but also after the sacking of Arne Slot.
The Reds need to rebuild a squad that can compete and build one that suits the new head coach. That will presumably be Andoni Iraola.
On top of it all, Liverpool are also searching for someone to replace Mohamed Salah on the right. One name previously floated for that is Francisco Trincao of Sporting CP.
The playmaker is capable of operating through the middle and on the right, which might suit Liverpool. He’s also certainly available, with Record claiming Sporting are looking to sell in order to raise funds.
And the report also says that it’s Liverpool who are at the ‘top of the list’ of potential suitors. They’ve apparently done the most work on Trincao and are the most likely to trigger the £50m release clause.
Now, whether this actually comes down to the release clause valuation is another matter. Record suggests that any sale would be in that area but it does seem expensive.
One to watch this summer, then. Trincao finished the league campaign with seven goals and 11 assists - good base numbers that will certainly secure a big sale.
Whether it’s to Liverpool, we’re not sure.
Sporting CP Campaign and Stats
As of 3 June 2026, Francisco Trincão has concluded a spectacular domestic campaign with Sporting CP under Rúben Amorim. The 26-year-old Portuguese winger enjoyed a highly productive season, making 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing 14 assists. His creative flair and elite dribbling on the right flank were pivotal in driving Sporting to consecutive Primeira Liga titles, cementing his status as one of the most dynamic attacking threats in Portugal.
Transfer Interest and Release Clause
Trincão's stellar form in Lisbon has reignited intense interest from elite clubs across Europe ahead of the summer window. Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa have reportedly sent scouts to monitor his situation closely. However, Sporting CP are under no pressure to sell their prized forward, as his contract runs until 2028 and contains a substantial €60 million release clause, meaning any potential suitors will have to pay a premium.
