Liverpool want to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson during the ongoing winter transfer window, according to German journalist Christopher Michel.
Manager Arne Slot will be without Conor Bradley for several months and wants Ryerson to replace him. Bradley has undergone knee surgery after picking up an injury against Arsenal.
They now want a quality replacement and are eyeing a move for the Dortmund star. Ryerson has been in fine form, bagging six assists in 22 appearances this season.
The 28-year-old defender is primarily a right-back, but he can play as a left-back and centre-back.
However, the Reds may need to hand him a tempting offer to consider leaving Dortmund midway through the campaign.
The Norwegian has established himself as an undisputed starter in recent seasons.
Liverpool may need to guarantee him regular playing chances, as he is not looking to leave his comfort zone for a fresh challenge.
Joe Gomez can cover for Bradley, while Jeremie Frimpong could be brought back to defence if Liverpool fail to sign a replacement.
Liverpool must strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign after an underwhelming start to their Premier League title defence.
Signing Ryerson could be a timely boost, but they also need to strengthen in other areas. Slot will be desperate to make some quality additions to his squad this month.
