Liverpool transfer target set to sign new Dortmund deal | OneFootball

Nico Schlotterbeck is set to extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2031, ending speculation over his future.

The centre-back had been linked with an exit from Dortmund as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his deal in the summer.

Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have been linked with the Dortmund vice-captain, with the former in search of a long-term heir to Virgil van Dijk as a left-sided centre-back.

However, Schlotterbeck is set to snub interest from rival clubs in favour of extending his deal. The contract will see the 26-year-old handed a salary increase and will give him the longest current contract at the Westfalenstadion.

BILD are reporting that the deal will include a release clause, rumoured to be around €60m (£51.8m). The clause will only be activated in 2027.

That scenario could see Liverpool return with Van Dijk’s contract at Anfield due to expire that summer, at which point the Dutch defender will approaching his 36th birthday.
