According to Diario Do Peixe, Luan Peres and Lucas Veríssimo are the only holdovers from Cuca’s previous Santos spell, and were his first-choice centre-backs, including in the 2020 Libertadores final.
In that stint, across a 45-match span, they started together 23 times. Those joint starts produced seven wins, nine draws and seven defeats, a 43% points return, with 26 goals conceded.
After that South American campaign, both defenders were sold, then later returned for second spells. Luan rejoined in September 2024, while Veríssimo was announced a month ago and is still awaiting his debut.
Their run of joint starts began on 9 August 2020 with a 1-1 draw against Bragantino in the Brazilian league, and ended on 30 January 2021 in a 1-0 loss to Palmeiras. The sequence covered league, Copa do Brasil and Libertadores fixtures.
Highlights with both starting included 0-0 away at Boca Juniors on 6 January 2021 and a 3-0 home win a week later, plus a 4-1 victory over Grêmio on 16 December 2020. In other matches during that period, rotation or absences meant only one started or neither featured.
