Lucas Chevalier, the PSG and France back-up goalkeeper, sustained a thigh injury in Wednesday morning training and faces several weeks out, putting his World Cup squad hopes in doubt.

While attention had centred on Achraf Hakimi, the club said in a Wednesday evening statement that Chevalier suffered a right thigh lesion in the morning session. It added the 24-year-old will remain in treatment for the coming weeks, as will the Morocco full-back.

It is a setback for the former Lille goalkeeper. He has been understudy to Matveï Safonov since the start of the year and has not played since 23 January.

He might have hoped to pick up minutes in Ligue 1 over the coming weeks, but this lay-off arrives at a difficult time.

His place in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July, now looks under threat.
