Lucas Digne will rejoin Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning double European champions, on a three-year contract, returning to the club he left in 2016.

He will sign once the World Cup finishes in North America, where he is with France. His Aston Villa deal includes a release clause below €10m, though the clubs have not yet settled the fee. According to the Daily Mail, he is viewed as the ideal alternative to Nuno Mendes.

Digne, 32 with 62 caps, extended his Aston Villa contract last summer and has enjoyed strong seasons in England, winning the Europa League in May.

With PSG, he is set to face Aston Villa on 12 August in the European Super Cup.

For France, he has been first choice since the knockout phase began, leaving Théo Hernandez only 13 minutes. He should start Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final against Spain at 21:00.
