Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Maghnes Akliouche but will not have a clear run at the Monaco starlet. The Red Devils are stepping up their preparations for the summer following an impressive end to the campaign.

After a mixed first half of the season under former head coach Ruben Amorim, INEOS opted for a managerial change in January. Michael Carrick was appointed as the Portuguese’s temporary replacement, and the English giants have been on a roll since.

United have registered 11 wins and three draws in 16 games under the former midfielder, subsequently securing a third-placed finish in the Premier League and Champions League football. Recent reports suggest that the Englishman is set to stay on as permanent manager, so the focus is now on squad reinforcements.

While the midfield remains the priority for the upcoming transfer window, the Red Devils could also invest in a new winger to add more depth to their attack ahead of a congested campaign. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person has named Akliouche as an option for the job.

The rising star of Ligue 1

Akliouche joined Monaco’s academy from Torcy in 2017. The Frenchman’s progression through the ranks was rapid and he broke into the senior side in 2021.

Akliouche has been a first-team regular for the Ligue 1 side in the past couple of seasons and his performances have already caught the eye of several clubs across the continent. The Red Devils oversaw a mass exodus in attack last summer, and now lack a proper winger in the squad.

While the Frenchman is not a traditional winger, he can operate in the role. The 24 year old is blessed with exceptional dribbling ability, while his close control, precise passing and work ethic make him an asset to the team.

This season, Akliouche has registered seven goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across competitions, all but three of which have been starts.

Monaco could miss out on European football next season, which has added to speculation regarding the Frenchman’s future. United and Liverpool are among the clubs hot on his heels, but it now appears that they will face competition from Ligue 1 in the race.

PSG want Akliouche

According to TEAMtalk, clubs across Europe have stepped up their efforts to sign Akliouche this summer. The report states: “Monaco are braced for a major summer overhaul following their failure to qualify for European football, with TEAMtalk understanding that Maghnes Akliouche is expected to be among the headline departures, amid interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, and other top sides.”

The report adds that the Frenchman’s performances have turned heads at Paris Saint-Germain as well, who see him as a possible replacement for Bradley Barcola. The report continues: “TEAMtalk can also reveal that French champions Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring Akliouche extremely closely and internally view him as a potential long-term replacement for Bradley Barcola should the winger eventually depart the Parc des Princes.”

“PSG are understood to be huge admirers of Akliouche’s profile and believe his technical level and tactical intelligence would fit seamlessly into their evolving attacking structure.”

Akliouche has earned a place in France’s World Cup squad, and Monaco reportedly believe it will be very hard to keep hold of the player beyond the summer. However, the French club will only let him go if their valuation is met. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person states that the Frenchman could be available for £40 million.

Final Thoughts

Akliouche prefers to operate on the right wing, and has a tendency to drift inside, which could make him similar to Bryan Mbeumo. While his price tag makes him an enticing proposition, United should perhaps target someone like Bazoumana Toure instead.
