After announcing a contract extension for Danny da Costa on Wednesday, Mainz 05 have tied another defender down to a new deal.
Die Nullfünfer confirmed on Thursday that Stefan Bell has extended his contract, which was due to expire this summer.
“Bello is an institution at Mainz 05 and has repeatedly shown his importance on and off the pitch for many years,” said Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert about the 34-year-old, who has spent almost 19 years at the club.
“He knows our club and what it stands for like almost no one else, and that is why we are very happy to continue having him and his experience in our team.”
Bell, who has made 333 appearances for Mainz, commented:
“I feel good and I can definitely still help the team in a few areas. That’s why it was clear to me that I would continue if it worked for everyone involved. I’m looking forward to the new season and to giving everything once again.”
