Mallorca’s victory over Sevilla has left Valencia only one point above the relegation places after their defeat against Real Betis, despite recent wins over Getafe and Espanyol. According to Superdeporte, the result tightens the pressure ahead of the next round.
Valencia are paying for a dismal first half of the season. They host Real Madrid next and will need a positive result to try to avoid dropping into the red zone before a derby with Levante UD.
Valencia sit on 23 points, the same as Getafe, one more than Rayo Vallecano and five clear of Levante. Above them, Corberán’s side trail Mallorca, Sevilla and Elche by one, and Alavés, Girona and Osasuna by two, leaving a compact table during a difficult run of fixtures.
The coming matchday includes direct duels such as Rayo versus Oviedo and Alavés versus Getafe. Valencia’s pursuers appear to have more manageable assignments, particularly Rayo.
Before that, Valencia play their Copa del Rey quarter-final at home on Wednesday against Athletic Club. Beyond a semi-final berth, it offers the chance to land a psychological blow on a league rival not at their best and to recharge for a crucial spell.
