Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has been linked with a move to Manchester City (Daily Mail).
Cucurella is looking to leave Chelsea following another topsy-turvy season.
The Spanish international defender has been linked with a return to his homeland, but Man City may throw their hat in the ring.
Chelsea are not prepared to hold on to anyone who wants to leave and will sanction a move for Cucurella.
With two years left on his current deal, this is the best time for Chelsea to sell Cucurella or get him to sign a new deal.
Cucurella’s technical limitations make him expendable, although Valentin Barco is not really the right profile to replace him.
City already have multiple options on the left side and do not need to spend heavily on another player who would only complicate the depth chart.
Nico O’Reilly emerged as one of the brightest stories of their season, proving he can handle senior football with a series of impressive performances.
The club also recently invested in Rayan Ait-Nouri, a specialist attacking left-back entering his prime.
They also have Josko Gvardiol, who they reportedly want to keep despite interest from Spain.
The Croatian has shown he can dominate games from left-back while still tucking inside as an extra centre-half.
City have bigger priorities elsewhere, and this move risks blocking the pathway of more exciting options.
