The world was quick to react when Manchester City midfielder Rodri appeared to open the door to a potential move back to Spain, specifically mentioning Real Madrid.
His initial comments sparked widespread debate, with many interpreting them as a hint towards a future transfer.
Just days ago, Rodri addressed the possibility of playing in Spain again, despite his past with Atletico Madrid.
His words immediately grabbed attention, particularly because of the sensitive nature of crossing rival lines in Spanish football.
“Having played for Atlético doesn’t prevent me from playing for Real Madrid; there are other players who have gone that way.
“Not directly, but eventually. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world. I would like to return to Spain, yes, obviously,” he had said.
Given his importance at Manchester City and his contract running until 2027, the idea of a potential exit naturally raised concerns among fans.

However, Rodri has now moved to address the situation more directly, insisting that his comments were taken out of context.
Speaking after the media reaction, he made it clear that the story surrounding his interview does not fully reflect what he intended to say.
“I’m used to it,” he said in response.
“If they cut out what they want from a 50-minute interview… in the end, I don’t have much more to say.”
The midfielder also that selective excerpts can often distort the true message, especially in long-form conversations where nuance matters.
“I’m a person who speaks frankly. The interview is available if you want to listen to it in its entirety… and not just excerpts,” he added.
