Manchester United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Arsenal prodigy Myles Lewis-Skelly, a fresh report has detailed.

On the radar

United are bracing for another busy summer window, with qualification for Champions League football looking increasingly certain. Heading into Monday’s meeting with Leeds at Old Trafford, United sit in third place in the Premier League table, one point above Aston Villa and six adrift of Manchester City.

Bolstering the midfield appears to be United’s top priority but other positions could come into play, especially because a much deeper squad will be needed next season. One of these if left-back.

United are extremely light at left-back. Luke Shaw is the clear starter in the role but he cannot be relied upon to remain fit over the course of a whole campaign. Combine that with the fact that he no longer offers as much attacking threat going forward as he used to, and it makes his case look even more dire.

Then there is Tyrell Malacia, who is expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season when his contract expires.

United continue to be linked to a number of options including Lewis Hall (Newcastle), Antonee Robinson (Fulham) and Lewis-Skelly.

A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that United have been offered the chance to sign Lewis-Skelly in the summer. He enjoyed a meteoric rise at Arsenal last season, coming through the ranks and breaking into the team before cementing a regular starting berth. He seemed entirely comfortable at the highest level, putting in superb displays in the Premier League and the Champions League.

However, this term, Mikel Arteta has demonstrated a clear preference for Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori. This has translated into extremely limited playing time for Lewis-Skelly, who is understood to be frustrated with the situation.

The Hale End academy graduate has chalked up just 1,358 minutes across all competitions and that is unlikely to improve much further given the Gunners are entering the run-in.

Now, Sami Mokbel of the BBC has revealed that Arsenal are willing to let Lewis-Skelly and teammate Ethan Nwaneri depart if they receive suitable offers for the pair.

Lewis-Skelly transfer latest

According to Mokbel, “Among the players the club are expected to listen to offers for are Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, both of whom signed long-term contracts last summer.”

“Nwaneri has interest from Borussia Dortmund, who have a successful history of landing English football’s best young talents. Rival Premier League sides are also monitoring the 19-year-old closely.”

“Lewis-Skelly also has varying degrees of interest from top half Premier League sides.”

The report notes that the lure of their sales going down as “pure profit” due to their status as homegrown players, adds to the appeal of selling them.

Arsenal are said to want a minimum combined of £100m for Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly.

If United choose to proceed with their plans to snap up Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal’s willingness to do business is a significant and positive development for them.
