Manchester United desperately struggled for home form last season.

Poor home form

The club unbelievably won only seven home league games and lost nine.

This year they have started significantly better, winning four of their first five matches at Old Trafford.

Efforts to improve atmosphere

Last season, United introduced the use of Tifos for the first time in their European quarter and semi-finals against Olympique Lyonnais and Athletic Club respectively.

What’s more, against Brighton and Hove Albion last month, the club had agreed to fans bringing an array of flags to decorate the stadium as the players walked out and finished the match.

It was reported that the players were delighted with the impact on the atmosphere and they could be seen taking in the different images as they applauded fans after a 4-2 win.

Safe-standing

The club has also announced that, “Manchester United have begun work on a significant expansion of rail seating at Old Trafford, with 6,000 additional safe standing seats being installed in Tier 2 of the Stretford End.”

It has been reported by the club’s official site that, “one of the largest safe standing areas in the Premier League will officially open at Old Trafford for the visit of Everton on Monday.”

It is also reported that, “the work is now complete and the section has now been officially certified by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority for safe standing.”

The new section now adds to existing safe standing areas in all four quadrants of Old Trafford and brings the total number of rail seats to 13,577. This is 18% of the stadium’s total capacity.

The club notes that, “safe standing is recognised to improve fan safety while also enhancing atmosphere in areas of the ground where fans prefer to stand.”

United will be hoping to continue their fine form at home with a victory over David Moyes’ Everton on Monday night.
