Manchester United are accelerating plans to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers this summer.
The club have identified Rogers as a top target, with the Red Devils preparing to upgrade their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League. United need two points from their final five games to seal a place in next season's competition and can confirmChampions League qualification with a win against Liverpool tomorrow.
Rogers is a profile that appeals to the club's recruitment team. The 23-year-old would follow last summer's successful blueprint in acquiring provenPremier League performers, with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo having helped oversee improvement this season.
Football Muse have been informed that internal talks have started over a deal that could be worth around £80m. United consider Rogers primarily as an option from the left, though his homegrown status and comfortability in central areas boost his appeal. Rogers is also regarded as a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes, who will turn 32 in September and will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer.
Prising the England international from Villa Park will not be easy. Rogers has been a key figure in the club's recent success and was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2024/25. This season, he has 12 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
However, Villa have felt the squeeze of the Premier League's financial rules in recent windows. Despitereporting a profit of £17m for 2024-25, the season in which they played in the Champions League, the sale of Rogers, signed from Middlesbrough for just £8m in January 2024, could help fund the club's summer recruitment drive.
United are not alone in expressing interest in Rogers. Chelsea, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been named as potential summer suitors.
