Michael Carrick hinted that Manchester United are considering a last-minute dive into the January transfer window to bolster the squad.
The Red Devils have yet to make any signings in the winter window, with the club instead parting ways with former youth prodigy Rhys Bennett in a permanent deal with Fleetwood Town.
United currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, thanks to Carrick’s sensational start as caretaker manager.

Speaking to the press ahead of the club’s impending clash with Fulham on Sunday, the 44-year-old admitted United are holding internal talks about the transfer window.
“We’re working towards this game [against Fulham] and talking about the window now, closing in a few days, that’s [the window] on the agenda a little bit,” the former midfielder was quoted by manutd.com.
Michael Carrick has inspired notable improvements across the squad following tactical tweaks.
However, there’s perhaps a growing sense that this United side could enhance its chances of securing Champions League qualification with a late attack of the January window.
Injuries aren’t a particularly massive factor for the Red Devils, so it’s difficult to suggest a signing that would alleviate any pressures there.

That said, wing-back-turned-winger Dorgu, in particular, will be sorely missed by Carrick’s men after two stellar performances against Arsenal and local rivals Manchester City.
In our view, however, United will find it difficult to justify signing a replacement with the Dane set to return to the side in the latter end of March. Especially given that either Matheus Cunha or Mason Mount could be looked at to plug the gap in the meantime.

However, it does perhaps highlight a weakness in the squad that must be addressed, if not now, by the summer at the latest.
It certainly explains why Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye has been the subject of recent links with Manchester United. The 25-year-old’s positional versatility would enable him to feature on the left flank in addition to his favoured right wing spot.

But we would cast some doubt over United splashing the reported £75m fee (Football365) the Toffees are allegedly demanding at this stage.
