Manchester City have announced the signing of England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The 25-year-old centre-back joins on a five-and-a-half-year contract until 2031, marking the club’s second acquisition of the winter window following the £64 million capture of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
City have signed Guehi for an initial £20m fee after Palace opted to part ways with their skipper six months from the end of his contract in South London.
“I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player,” Guehi told the club’s official website.
“This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career.
“I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad of players. It feels good to be able to say that.”
Guehi was close to signing for Liverpool last summer, but Palace’s failure to secure a replacement saw them pull the plug on the deal.
Given Man City’s current injury crisis at the back, they will need Guehi to hit the ground running if they are to usurp Arsenal in the title race.
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat saw Pep Guardiola’s side fall seven points shy of the league leaders, and with away matches against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on the horizon, City will need to be on their A game.
For now, though, the immediate focus is on Tuesday’s trip to Norway for the challenge of Bodo/Glimt as City aim to potentially confirm their place in the top eight of the Champions League group phase.
