Manchester City eased into the fifth round of this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup by recording a simple 6-0 victory at AFC Bournemouth this afternoon.

Laura Coombs and Vivianne Miedema netted doubles while Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp were also on target for The Cityzens at Snows Stadium.

After a slightly cagey opening couple of minutes with both sides trying to settle into the match, the first chance fell to the visitors, but neither Shaw or Coombs could get a head on Hemp’s delivery.

The hosts’ first chance came through Jenna Markham. She broke through Manchester City’s defence to run onto a ball over the top, but Khiara Keating was able to make the stop.

After a few missed chances for the visitors, Shaw opened the scoring inside 20 minutes. She met Leila Ouahabi’s cross from the right and headed the ball into the far corner of Erin Foley’s goal.

Manchester City then doubled their lead through Hemp, who reacted quickly to a rebound off Shaw’s deflected long-range shot to slot the ball into the far corner.

Just before the break, Coombs added a third to The Cityzens’ tally, capitalising on a Shaw pass.

The Barclays Women’s Super League leaders then added another in quick succession. Shaw sent in a low ball from the left for Coombs to slot her second in from close range.

Following a dominant half from the visitors, they were denied on a couple of occasions early in the second half. Foley made a double save, first palming away Ouahabi’s effort before blocking Shaw’s chance from inside the box.

Second half substitute Miedema added a fifth goal just before the hour. Foley made an initial save to deny Gracie Prior at the far post, but the ball rebounded out to Miedema to tap home from close range.

The Dutch international then added a sixth inside the last 10 minutes when her left-footed shot was fired past Foley.

Manchester City pushed for a seventh in added time and Ouahabi had the ball in the net but the goal was disallowed as the scoreline remained 6-0.

Manchester City will learn of their Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round opponents when the draw is made on Monday.
