Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has not made the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, according to Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs.
The Man United star has been a key player for the Red Devils this term, making 24 appearances across all competitions.
However, Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel has opted against taking Maguire to the World Cup next month, and the 33-year-old is said to be gutted and shocked not to make the squad.
The official list is expected to be released in the coming days and some of Maguire’s Man United teammates are expected to be on it.
Marcus Rashford, currently on loan with Barcelona, is set to be part of the squad after impressing in Spain, while Kobbie Mainoo is also heading to the World Cup after some impressive performances under Michael Carrick in recent months.
It remains to be seen whether Man United left-back Luke Shaw will make the final list even if included in the preliminary list.
Tuchel is considering calling Chelsea defender Levi Colwill up to his England squad in place of Maguire.
The 23-year-old has made just three competitive appearances for the Blues this season having suffered a serious ACL injury on the eve of the soon-to-end campaign.
Maguire earned his first call-up for England in 2017, representing his country at the last two World Cups and the 2020 European Championship before injury kept him out of Euro 2024.
He has 66 caps to his name and it remains to be seen whether he will be adding to them anytime given those ahead of him in the pecking order.
Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and Manchester City’s Marc Guehi are likely to be the country’s centre-back pairing at the World Cup, with John Stones expected to provide cover if picked.
England begin their World Cup campaign on June 17 against Croatia in Group L before facing Ghana on the 23rd and Panama on the 27th.
