Mandas wanted by Manchester City and Wolves, but now languishing on Lazio bench | OneFootball

Christos Mandas went from Lazio first choice goalkeeper, Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer target, to sitting on the bench, as his future is up in the air.

The Greece international had pushed his way past Ivan Provedel to take the gloves on a regular basis last season under coach Marco Baroni.

However, with the return of Maurizio Sarri, the hierarchy flipped yet again with the Italian getting playing time.

Mandas dropped down pecking order at Lazio

There are fewer opportunities than ever to rotate, considering Lazio failed to qualify for UEFA competition, so will only be in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

It is quite the fall from grace for Mandas, who had been heavily linked with a potential move to Manchester City only a few months ago.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were prepared to offer up to €20m for the goalkeeper, who will celebrate his 24th birthday later this month.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, he hopes to get some opportunities to play this season and earn his place back from Provedel.

If that fails to materialise, then a January sale could become inevitable.

He would represent a huge profit, considering he was purchased for just €1.3m from OFI Crete in September 2023.
