Bayern Munich have lost their third goalkeeper in a week after Sven Ulreich injured his right thigh adductors at Leverkusen on Saturday. The club said in a statement that scans showed a muscle fibre tear and he is unavailable, with no return date given.

The 37-year-old third choice started the 1-1 draw, his first appearance since 21 September 2024, and impressed before feeling discomfort late on. Tests were carried out in Munich on Sunday.

Manuel Neuer had returned against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 4-1 win after a left calf tear on 21 February against Frankfurt. He was replaced at half-time by Jonas Urbig after a relapse in that calf.

Urbig then suffered a concussion on Tuesday after a heavy blow to the head from the feet of Atalanta Bergame forward Nikola Krstovic during the Champions League round of 16 first leg, which was won 6-1.

Neuer was not expected to return until after the late March international break, and Urbig’s medical clearance to resume training was still under discussion.

Options are scarce before Wednesday’s second leg. They are Jannis Bärtl, 19, the reserves’ number two in Germany’s fourth division, or Leonard Prescott, 16, the under-19s’ first choice. The sixth Champions League-registered keeper, Leon Klanac, 19, the usual reserve number one, has been out injured since early December.
