The trouble began in that Matchday 17 clash when defender Marcão received his marching orders. His frustration didn't end with the red card. According to the referee's official report, cited by Marca, the player proceeded to confront official Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz with aggressive protests and compounded his misconduct by kicking the ball away while it was out of play.

Despite Sevilla's efforts to plead their case, the disciplinary committee upheld the referee's account in full. The verdict was severe: a six-match ban for Marcão, condemning him to roughly a month and a half on the sidelines.

This suspension deals a significant blow to a Sevilla side already languishing in mid-table. With just 20 points from 17 games, placing them tenth, the team must now navigate their upcoming schedule—starting with a January fixture against Levante—without a key defensive figure, deepening the crisis sparked by their defeat at the Bernabéu.
