During the winter transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain looked to part ways with players no longer in their plans, and Marco Asensio was one of those on the move.

Since November 30, Asensio’s role at PSG has been limited. The former Real Madrid forward has dropped out of the starting lineup and made only a few appearances as a substitute.

On Sunday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Asensio on loan from PSG. This move won’t impact Marcus Rashford’s potential loan to Villa, which may include an option to buy.

PSG are satisfied with this short-term arrangement for Asensio, as Villa will cover his full wages. Fabrizio Romano later confirmed that Villa will take on the entirety of Asensio’s salary through June, with PSG agreeing to a straight loan deal that doesn’t feature a buy option.

Aston Villa confirmed Asensio’s arrival on Monday, and the former Real Madrid star shared what he hopes to bring to the team, drawing on his experience in numerous high-profile matches throughout his career.

“I’ve got experience in these types of games (Champions League),” Asensio told the club’s official website. “They are games that are decided based on small margins. And well, we’ll tackle (each game) in the best way, prepare to win those games, at home with the support of the fans always and I think we’ll be prepared when we get to that phase.”
