Marco Silva’s prospective move from Fulham to take charge of Benfica remains far from agreed. He is still the priority of Rui Costa’s board to succeed José Mourinho, yet talks are at a sensitive stage with several issues unresolved.
According to A Bola, disagreements centre on the football structure and the level of autonomy Silva is seeking. He wants a strong say in squad building, internal organisation and season planning.
He is also waiting for firmer guarantees around the sporting project and the club’s ability to invest in the squad.
Finances are still being discussed, though they are not seen as the main obstacle. Benfica’s wage offer is below the renewal on the table from Fulham, albeit with mechanisms designed to narrow the gap.
In England, Silva continues to be highly valued. Fulham have offered a deal through to 2030 and are said to be ready to invest significantly in the next window to boost competitiveness.
Facing difficulties, Benfica have begun assessing alternatives. If Silva does not accept, the next head coach would be foreign.
