Marseille close to agreement with Al-Sadd for Nayef Aguerd sale | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille are close to reaching an agreement with Al-Sadd over the departure of Nayef Aguerd (30), according to a report from Foot Mercato.

OM are seeking to raise funds and reduce their wage bill before the end of the summer transfer window, with Aguerd among several players who could be sold despite only joining the club last year.

The Morocco international remains under contract at the Vélodrome until 2030. A clause in his deal previously allowed him to leave for €15m, payable in one instalment, until 31 July, but no club activated it. Stade Rennais had explored the possibility of bringing their former defender back to Brittany, although the Ligue 1 side were unable to make progress in negotiations.

Al-Sadd have now moved ahead in the race for Aguerd. The Qatari club are close to agreeing a paid loan worth €4m, which would include an automatic €11m purchase option.

Marseille had initially prioritised a permanent transfer in order to receive immediate funds. However, after struggling to secure a suitable offer, the club have accepted the proposed loan structure.

Al-Sadd must now reach an agreement with Aguerd, who has earned 64 caps for Morocco. Other clubs have also enquired about the defender’s situation.GFFN | George Boxall
