Jean-Philippe Mateta hailed the Selhurst Park faithful after his dramatic late double secured a comeback win over Newcastle.
Crystal Palace trailed before Jean-Philippe Mateta emerged from the bench midway through the second half.
The French international finished a fine team move to equalise in the 80th minute. He then converted a clinical injury-time penalty to seal the victory.
Consequently, this result extends Palace’s unbeaten home run to six matches.
Mateta was quick to credit the home supporters for the turnaround. “The fans play a big part when we play at home,” the striker told Palace TV.
He noted that the crowd provides essential energy during difficult periods. “They always bring energy,” he explained. “Especially when I score, and I kick the corner flag, it’s very loud.”
The victory serves as a massive confidence boost ahead of a crucial trip to Florence. Palace are currently competing in Europe alongside their Premier League duties.
“It was a good game to go with confidence to Florence,” Mateta remarked. Moreover, he expressed hope that the fans would travel to support them in Italy.
The striker now has double figures for the season following his recent prolific form. He praised the manager for managing the squad effectively during a busy April schedule.
“We have a big squad, and like you see today, the gaffer has changed a lot,” Mateta said. He remains ambitious about winning every remaining fixture this season. “I hope we will win all the games!” the forward concluded.
