Matheus Pereira could make his second Corinthians debut in a clássico, with his return potentially arriving this Sunday.
The midfielder has rejoined on loan until the end of 2026, with an option to buy. Ge.globo reports that when he was sold to Juventus in June 2016 for €2.5 million, Corinthians kept only five percent of his rights, with 95 percent assigned to agent Fernando Garcia.
He first started for the seniors in a July friendly against ABC at the Frasqueirão in Natal. On 23 August 2015 he came on late in a 3-0 Brasileirão win over Cruzeiro in Itaquera.
Three days later, aged 17, he made his first competitive start at Neo Química Arena against Santos in the Copa do Brasil round of 16. He played 55 minutes before being replaced by Romero in a 2-1 defeat that sealed Corinthians’ exit.
He did not feature again, but ended 2015 with the club’s sixth national title and later took part in pre-season in Florida. In 2016 he missed a chipped penalty in the Copinha final against Flamengo, with Corinthians finishing runners-up.
He later had spells with Empoli, Bordeaux II, Paraná, Juventus B, Dijon, Barcelona B and Eibar. Time at Eibar pushed him into a deeper role and preceded a move to Fortaleza in June last year.
Despite Fortaleza’s relegation to Série B, he impressed with 20 appearances, three assists and two goals. His potential return could come at 16:00 against São Paulo at Neo Química Arena in the Paulistão third round.
