Mathys Tel was ready to join Marseille before choosing Premier League move | OneFootball

According to a report from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Mathys Tel (19) was at one stage ready to join Olympique de Marseille during the winter transfer window.

Marseille had been linked with a loan for the Bayern Munich player as they considered bolstering their attacking options following the departure of Elye Wahi (22) on a permanent transfer to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

RMC Sport understands that Marseille’s sporting director, Medhi Benatia, called up the former Stade Rennais forward. Tel was tempted by the idea, especially after talking with Benatia and Marseille’s president, Pablo Longoria. However, he ultimately rejected the approach in favour of joining Tottenham Hotspur on loan from Bayern Munich because he wanted to ply his trade in the Premier League

A previous report suggested that one of the deciding factors for the player in choosing the North London club was a lengthy conversation with head coach Ange Postecoglou.
