Mayor Gualtieri: “Roma’s new stadium ready by 2029.” | OneFootball

The final Conference of Services took place today, and Commissioner Massimo Sessa announced the issuance of the single permit for the construction of Roma’s stadium in Pietralata.

Mayor Roberto Gualtieri made the following statement on the sidelines of the meeting: “This is the first large, new facility that will elevate Rome’s footballing scene and represent a significant redevelopment of a part of our city.”

The mayor then elaborated on the timeline: “The conditions are now in place to proceed expeditiously and begin construction in early 2027, and have the stadium ready in three years. Construction will last precisely two and a half years, so the stadium could be ready as early as 2029.”

The Minister for Sport and Youth also spoke after the meeting: “Yes, it was a great team effort, as was done for the Jubilee; all the institutions collaborated. This was about finally completing a long-awaited project: our thoughts turn to Dino Viola and Franco Sensi. This is a great result for all Roma fans, obviously, but also for the entire city and the country. It marks a process of modernization for the city and also of extremely important social and environmental redevelopment. A very large, very beautiful park will be created, available to all citizens. Truly, it is a very important result: we will continue with determination until the end, until the inauguration of the stadium.”

The politician then focused on the next steps: “All the conditions are in place because now we will start the tender, and in parallel there will be the verification of the TFTE, the executive report, and after these steps the construction work will begin. All the conditions are in place to stick to the schedule; it’s a two-and-a-half-year program: in three years, the stadium can be ready. Three years from now, by the calculations, we are at the end of 2029. The construction site lasts two and a half years, if we start in spring 2027, do the math: it could even be ready at the end of 2029”.
