Kylian Mbappé rounded off 2025 in style, breaking yet another record on his 27th birthday.

The Real Madrid number 10 helped seal a 2-0 win over Sevilla, hitting a milestone previously set by Cristiano Ronaldo.

With that strike, Mbappé notched his 59th club goal of the year, matching Ronaldo’s tally for Real back in 2013.

That puts him level with Cristiano Ronaldo for the second most prolific club season of this century, only behind Lionel Messi, who scored an astonishing 79 goals for Barcelona in 2012.

Matching his idol

On his birthday, Mbappé matched a record set by his idol. The Frenchman scored 59 goals in 59 games for Real Madrid, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s most prolific club year.

Ronaldo had actually hit the same number in just 50 games, averaging 1.18 goals per match. Mbappé’s goal also wrapped up Real’s victory on Saturday, leaving the Merengues just a point behind Barcelona in LaLiga. And true to form, Mbappé celebrated in the same iconic style as Ronaldo.

When you factor in international goals, the Frenchman sits just three short of Ronaldo’s 2013 tally. While Ronaldo added ten for Portugal that year, Mbappé has seven for France on top of his 59 for Real. That places him fourth in the overall list for the year, behind Messi (91 goals: 79 for Barcelona, 12 for Argentina), Ronaldo (69: 59 for Real, 10 for Portugal), and Robert Lewandowski (69: 58 for Bayern, 11 for Poland).

So, all told, it’s been another record-breaking year for Mbappé – and one that cements his place among the game’s modern greats.
