Memphis Depay, the Corinthians forward, received praise from the Dutch king after the Netherlands beat Sweden 5-1 at the World Cup in Houston on Saturday.
According to Meu Timao, King Willem-Alexander visited the Netherlands dressing room to congratulate the players, and told Depay it was wonderful to have him with the squad.
The 55-goal record scorer for his country has come on in the second half in both of the Netherlands' first two matches at this tournament, and is currently a substitute under Ronald Koeman.
There is an expectation he could move towards a starting role as his fitness improves, with the Netherlands close to sealing progression, which could mean more chances for the number 10.
The result leaves the Netherlands provisionally top of Group F on four points. Japan face Tunisia overnight, and only a Japanese win by five goals would drop them to second.
The Netherlands return on Thursday for their final group game against Tunisia, kicking off at 20:00 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
