Memphis Depay will wear the No 10 shirt for the Netherlands at the World Cup, matching his choice from 2022.
According to Meu Timao, the Corinthians forward’s shirt allocation has been confirmed for the finals.
This is his third World Cup. He wore 21 in 2014 in Brazil, the Dutch failed to qualify in 2018, and he took 10 in Qatar. This edition is hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Across nine World Cup matches he has three goals and one assist, with seven wins, one draw and one defeat. He also holds a national record with 55 goals for the Netherlands, ahead of Robin van Persie and Johan Cruyff.
The Netherlands are in Group F and open against Japan on 14 June at 17:00 Brasília time at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. They then face Sweden on 20 June at 14:00 at NRG Stadium in Houston. The group ends against Tunisia on 25 June at 20:00 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, all in the United States.
Before the tournament, Ronald Koeman’s side play two warm-ups. They meet Algeria in Rotterdam on Tuesday, then Uzbekistan in New York on 8 June.
Depay’s involvement will earn Corinthians 11,000 dollars per day through FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme, around R$ 55.7 thousand. Group-stage participation alone guarantees 132,000 dollars, roughly R$ 670 thousand.
If the Netherlands reach the final, the sum could hit 396,000 dollars, topping R$ 2 million.
