Memphis set for Corinthians renewal with pay cut and reworked debt | OneFootball

Corinthians are close to finalising Memphis Depay's renewal on a two-year extension to mid-2028, featuring a pay cut, a reworked bonus scheme and a schedule to settle outstanding sums owed to the forward.

According to Meu Timao, the 32-year-old is due to sign on Tuesday 28, then arrive in São Paulo on Thursday. His camp sought three years, but the club held firm.

Under the new terms he will no longer have club-funded security or housing. Previously, the club were paying about R$ 250,000 per month for his lodging.

The club owe just over R$ 40 million in unpaid bonuses, a figure that approaches R$ 70 million with interest. Memphis has waived the corrected amount and will receive the original sum in four semi-annual instalments from February 2027.

His earlier deal paid extras for appearances, goals, assists and trophies. The new structure mirrors team norms, keeping title bonuses scaled by competition, so a Supercopa win would be worth less than a Libertadores triumph.

His last game was the Netherlands’ 3-1 World Cup win over Tunisia on 25 June, before a round-of-32 exit to Morocco. Corinthians do not plan to use him against Athletico Paranaense, though Copa do Brasil involvement on 2 August, with more on 6 August, remains possible.

This season he has 14 appearances, one goal and one assist after a right-thigh lay-off from March to May. Since 2024 he has played 79 times, scoring 20 with 15 assists and winning three trophies.
