Michael Olise’s first hat-trick for France lit up a 3-1 friendly win over Northern Ireland and triggered rave reviews across Europe. According to L'Équipe, he is on Real Madrid’s radar, with the Spanish club said to be ready to pay €150m to prise him from Bayern Munich following Florentino Pérez’s re-election.
The Franco-British forward struck three superb goals on Monday night, sharpening expectations around him ahead of the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.
In Spain, Marca hailed a superstar drawing the spotlight even in a side that also includes Ousmane Dembélé, described as the current Ballon d’Or and a double Champions League winner, and Kylian Mbappé, France’s captain and marquee player. Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo called Olise the man of the moment, even edging Mbappé into the background.
From Germany, Bild labelled it a gala performance by the Bayern attacker. Across the Channel, the Guardian said he once again showed he is among the most spectacular footballers, while the BBC asked why he might be moving closer to the Ballon d’Or.
Bayern do not intend to let a rising talent depart, and ESPN relayed Bayern president Herbert Hainer’s view that if Florentino Pérez wishes to make an offer, which has not yet happened, he need not bother. On BBC Sport NI, Louis Saha added that this is what is expected from such a player and what he wants to see at the World Cup.
