According to L'Équipe, its film “Michael Olise, meneur tout-puissant” features Jordy Makengo revisiting Bayern Munich’s 6-2 win over Fribourg on 22 November, when Michael Olise scored twice and supplied three assists.
The French left-back, Olise’s direct opponent that afternoon, admits rewatching the footage stings, yet he still describes the forward’s display as exceptional.
One moment singled out is the sixth goal, a trademark pattern from the right, a sharp cut inside, then a curling finish, echoing Olise’s third strike on Monday against Northern Ireland.
Makengo explains that even when you anticipate the move, Olise’s timing is decisive. He tried to show him wide from a three-quarter body shape, but the late chop inside cost him a fraction he could not recover.
Saïd Aïgoun, Crystal Palace assistant from 2021 to 2023, notes Olise’s first touch and body shape are almost never closed to play, his shoulders already angled towards goal. For a defender, block the inside and he goes outside, a pattern underpinned by high-level game intelligence, the sense for football that Makengo says defines him.
The documentary also draws on the insight of Jamal Musiala, exploring further facets of Olise’s game and journey that mark him out as a unique stylist.
