Mikel Arteta is hopeful of some good news before Arsenal’s final home game of the season

Calafiori was replaced at half-time in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over West Ham last weekend, with Arteta confirming the Italian defender had picked up a knock.

Though when speaking in the pre-match press conference on Thursday morning, Arteta said: "We don't know whether he's going to be available or not.

“We still have days ahead. Hopefully it's nothing serious but we will have to wait and see how he reacts."

Timber has not featured for Arsenal since the 2-0 win over Everton two months ago because of an ongoing groin issue, but Arteta has revealed the Dutchman is making good progress.

Timber was at the London Stadium on Sunday, standing on the pitch ahead of kick-off as his team-mates warmed upa round him.

The Arsenal manager said: “He wanted to be very close to the team [against West Ham]. He's progressed a little bit in the last few days. He's feeling better.

“We're going to try to get him fit and available as quick as possible but let's see. Obviously he’s been out now for a while unfortunately. He’s such an important player for us, we all know that.

“He’s doing everything that he possibly can to help the team in any capacity. We know his leadership, his quality and how much the team needs him. He’s trying everything he can.”

Arteta was then asked if Timber could feature in either of the remaining Premier League fixtures or the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30.

"There is a chance but how big that chance is I cannot tell you, being completely honest,” the Spaniard responded.

“He's going to try to do everything he can to convert that chance as high as possible in the shortest possible period. That’s the challenge ahead.”
