Mikel González extends contract until 2030 | OneFootball

Mikel González has extended his contract as Athletic’s director of football until 30 June 2030.

As reported by as.com, he has been working throughout the summer at Lezama on squad planning in coordination with first-team head coach Edin Terzic.

Athletic have formalised the agreement with the Getxo-born executive to continue leading the sporting department, a role he assumed on 22 November 2022. His tenure has delivered a Copa title and Champions League qualification two seasons ago under Ernesto Valverde.

A new cycle now begins with Terzic, with González addressing key matters concerning Unai Gómez, Agirrezabala and Vesga.

González oversees the construction of the senior squads, directs loans and transfers, and leads the department’s strategic plan, which includes integrating players from all categories into Lezama.
