Mihailo Ivanovic must be concerned by one move involving Charlton Athletic that Millwall are plotting in the summer transfer market

Millwall are keen on bolstering their forward options following their strong Championship campaign, but their ultimate failure to reach the Premier League.

The Lions were still in contention to clinch promotion on the final day of the regular season, when they defeated Oxford United 2-0, thanks to Femi Azeez's brace.

However, Ipswich Town also won on 2 May, meaning that Alex Neil's men had to settle for a third-place finish, rather than landing an automatic promotion spot.

Despite their superior finish in the Championship table, Millwall then lost to eventually promoted Hull City in the play-offs, suffering a 2-0 defeat at The Den.

Mihailo Ivanovic should be worried as Millwall plot move for Scotland striker

Mihailo Ivanovic made a reasonable impact for Millwall in the Championship this term, scoring nine goals and registering three assists in 44 second-tier appearances.

However, the 21-year-old was the understudy to fellow striker Josh Coburn in both of the Lions' play-off clashes with Hull, proving that the former Middlesbrough man is above Ivanovic in Neil's pecking order.

Coburn scored at a more impressive rate than the Serbia international, notching his nine goals in just 26 Championship appearances.

Meanwhile, as per Ben Jacobs on X, Millwall and Leicester City have both approached to sign Lyndon Dykes as a free agent following his loan spell with Charlton Athletic.

Jacobs' report revealed that the Addicks have also made an offer for him to stay at The Valley permanently.

Dykes scored three goals and produced three goals while on loan at Charlton from his former parent club, Birmingham City, helping Nathan Jones' side stay in the Championship.

His last goal for the Addicks came on Good Friday, when the South London club were beaten 2-1 by Bristol City.

If Millwall sign another striker, that will concern Ivanovic, who has already missed out on game time in key fixtures thanks to the presence of Coburn.

Furthermore, Dykes' physicality and hold-up play mean that he has more similar tendencies to Coburn, which are clearly attributes that Neil values.

Additionally, the former Birmingham man hails from Scotland, the same country as Lions boss Neil, who will likely keep a close eye on his exploits at international level, including in this summer's World Cup.

Lyndon Dykes could favour Millwall move over Leicester City and Charlton Athletic switches

Dykes has never been a particularly prolific striker, and hasn't notched double figures since scoring 12 goals across all competitions for Queens Park Rangers in the 2020/21 season.

However, the strong manner in which he leads the line, coupled with his experience, would make him an ideal asset for Millwall, who are vying to clinch promotion following this term's near miss.

Furthermore, the Scotland international hasn't played for a side with serious promotion credentials in the Championship, which is something that the Lions have established.

Millwall may be facing an uphill battle to retain star man Femi Azeez this summer, but other talented attackers like Camiel Neghli could help to get the best out of Dykes.
