Following his departure from FC Bayern, Leon Goretzka is facing one of the most important decisions of his career. The German international is a free agent and can choose his new club freely. While for a long time everything pointed to a move to AC Milan, the situation has changed significantly recently. Now even an MLS club is in the running for the 31-year-old.

For Leon Goretzka, the World Cup with the German national team is currently his top priority. The midfielder is fully focused on the tournament in North America and wants to address his sporting future in depth only after it concludes.

As a free agent, Goretzka is in a comfortable position. Unlike many other professionals, he is not under time pressure and can take his time considering the various options.

Nevertheless, the national team player is aware that making a decision soon would have advantages. After all, he wants to complete the entire preseason with his new club and start the upcoming season without delays.

For many months, AC Milan was considered the favorite to sign the midfielder.

Talks between the two sides were reportedly well advanced. There were even reports that Goretzka was on the verge of agreeing to a move to Italy.

But the situation at the Rossoneri has recently changed dramatically.

Chicago Fire expresses interest in

After failing to qualify for the Champions League, a major shakeup took place at the club. Coach Massimiliano Allegri was forced to step down, and there were also changes in the club’s sporting leadership.

These uncertainties have apparently significantly reduced the appeal of a move to Milan.

While the situation in Italy has changed, a new suitor has emerged. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, Chicago Fire is actively pursuing a deal to sign the German international. The MLS club has ambitious plans and would like to bring two prominent former Bayern players to Chicago this summer.

In addition to Goretzka, Robert Lewandowski is also on the Americans’ wish list. The MLS club’s chances seem particularly realistic when it comes to the Polish striker.

Europe remains the priority for Goretzka

With Goretzka, however, the situation is different. According to information from Romano, while interest from Chicago is concrete, the midfielder himself still prefers to remain in Europe.

The 31-year-old wants to continue competing at the highest level in the coming years and currently sees his sporting future in a top European league.

A move to MLS is not ruled out in principle, but does not appear to be a priority at this stage of his career.

Italy, in particular, remains an attractive destination for Goretzka. In addition to Milan, Juventus Turin and SSC Napoli are also keeping an eye on the experienced midfielder.

Juventus, in particular, is closely monitoring the situation. Additionally, national team coach Luciano Spalletti has been considered a great admirer of Goretzka’s playing style for years, which further fuels the rumors of a move to Italy.

The link to Napoli also remains a possibility.

Furthermore, Atlético Madrid and Arsenal have been repeatedly mentioned as possible destinations in recent months.

At the moment, however, these options seem significantly less concrete than the leads pointing to Italy.

One thing is clear: Goretzka’s situation is likely to keep the transfer market busy for several more weeks. After the World Cup, the midfielder will make his decision about his future.

At the moment, there is much to suggest that Europe’s top leagues still hold the best cards. However, the interest from MLS shows that Goretzka is also among the most sought-after free agents internationally this transfer summer.
