Mohamed Salah is now eligible to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any club, with his Liverpool contract set to expire in June. As the new year begins, fresh reports have emerged linking the 32-year-old forward to Paris Saint-Germain.

L’Équipe recently revealed that PSG had initiated talks with Salah’s representatives, and the Egyptian international is said to be increasingly open to the idea of joining the French giants. This has sparked renewed speculation about a potential move to Paris.

However, PSG quickly dismissed the rumors, with a club spokesperson telling L’Équipe, “It’s not true.” The report also suggests Salah could be using the speculation to leverage a stronger position in ongoing contract talks with Liverpool.

Football Insider has added that Salah is reportedly seeking a substantial contract extension, with the forward aiming to secure a deal that would keep him at Anfield until 2027, adding an extra three years to his current contract.

As rumors swirl about Salah’s potential move to PSG, French football expert Robin Bairner believes there are only two likely destinations for the veteran forward as his status as a free agent draws nearer.

“Obviously, moving back to the Middle East would be an interesting opportunity for him and a different experience as a massive superstar,” Bairner said on the latest PSG Talking podcast. “He’s already got that status at Liverpool, but it would be completely different in Saudi Arabia, where they want to use him to grow the game. It’s a difficult question.

“I would say Salah is likely to stay at Liverpool. If PSG are offering like-for-like money after tax, and you’re Salah, then surely you’d stay at Anfield, where you’ve already got hero and legend status. I don’t see why you’d risk that to go to PSG, a club that’s been notoriously combustible.

“We’ve seen Messi go to PSG, and while it’s not accurate to say he failed, his legacy at PSG is nowhere near what he achieved at Barcelona. Does Salah want to do the same? Probably not, in my opinion. So, I think for Salah, it’s likely to be Liverpool or Saudi Arabia, depending on what he sees as the next stage in his career.”

Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna reported this week that Salah’s priority is still to remain at Liverpool. While he continues negotiating a new deal with the club, he is also in talks with PSG.
