The FC Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has been playing away from the Catalan club this season, as he joined the Ligue 1 side AS Monaco last summer on a season-long loan.
The Spaniard has used this loan stint to recover as a player, after having faced some very difficult seasons before that. As a result, he has not only regained some morale, but his market value is also improving.
However, Barcelona’s stance on his future appears increasingly firm. According to SPORT, the club and its sporting leadership consider that Ansu Fati no longer fits the level required for the squad at the Camp Nou.
There is complete agreement within the sporting department, including Deco, Bojan Krkic, Joao Amaral, and Hansi Flick, that he will not be part of the long-term project. Even though Flick has asked internally to remain focused on securing the league title, the decision regarding Fati is already largely made.
Barcelona have also been monitoring his physical condition closely. The forward has spent significant time sidelined due to injuries this season, including a long spell between December and January and additional weeks in February. While not catastrophic in isolation, his recurring muscular problems have raised concerns about his ability to regain the explosiveness that once defined him.
Financial factors also play a role, with his high gross salary at Barcelona considered a burden. His contract runs until 2028, but the club is open to a permanent departure. Monaco hold an option to sign him for around €11 million, although his wages could become a stumbling block for the French side.
If Monaco do not proceed with the deal, Barcelona are expected to explore alternative destinations. For now, a return to Barcelona’s first team looks highly unlikely, with the club viewing a sale as the most realistic outcome in the coming transfer window.
